Native Land (NCR) & Awareness Campaign and Increasing Community Capacity in Kg. Sedul, Ranau

On 15th June 2015, PACOS and PANSA  (Persatuan Anak Negeri Sabah) were invited to Kg. Sedul, Ranau for a talk entitled “Challenges and Ownership of Native Lands”.

Villagers have been trying to maintain and defend their native lands which in 1976, have been gazetted for the purpose of tea plantation (Sabah Tea) under the supervision of the Rural Development Corporation. A total of 6,200 acres of lands were gazetted which included native lands belonging to 4 villages.

In 1997, the overall share and land management of the land were handed over fully (100%) to Yee Lee Corporation Ltd. Although the gazetted lands are under the name and jurisdiction of the Rural Development Corporation, they ultimately belong to Yee Lee Corporation Ltd. now.

Now, a big portion of the native land has been damaged through logging and many under activities under the company. These activities will undoubtedly not only damage the native lands but also the water catchment areas that act as a source of livelihood for the villagers.

On behalf of Pacos, we would like to thank the villagers of Kg. Sedul for their incredible hospitality during our stay there. Your village is beautiful and such a wonderful place for a retreat. Thank you to the fresh fishes taken from the ‘original icebox’, the Moroli river. Fresh fishes are conserved by using the tagal system – traditional conservation system.Moroli – hasil Tagal)
